Antonio Conte is desperate to finally link up with Romelu Lukaku at Inter Milan and reportedly believes the striker was misused by Jose Mourinho during their time together at Manchester United. The Belgium international looks increasingly likely to leave Old Trafford this summer, having been left out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 26-man squad to face Kristiansund on Tuesday evening.
Lukaku has been attracting interest from both Inter and Juventus who could offer Paulo Dybala as part of the deal though both clubs are some way short of United’s valuation.
The 26-year-old only joined United two years ago, though came very close to moving to Chelsea under then manager Conte, only for the Blues’ bid to be hijacked as they signed Alvaro Morata instead. Lukaku only scored 16 times in the Premier League in his maiden campaign at Old Trafford and netted just 12 times, his second least prolific campaign in last seven years as Mourinho was axed last season.
But, according to The Independent, Conte is convinced Lukaku is still a world-class frontman and was simply misused by Mourinho.
