Juan Mata says Manchester United’s 3-0 win against Shrewsbury Town will provide the Red Devils with confidence ahead of a big week.
Manchester united defender Chris Smalling broke the deadlock in the 37th minute before Mata extended the Red Devils’s lead on the stroke of half-time.
Louis Van Gaal’s side had suffered successive defeats ahead of their trip to the League One side but Jesse Lingard put the tie beyond doubt 29 minutes from time.
Manchester United’s FA Cup win ended a two-game losing run after 2-1 defeats by Sunderland in the Premier League and FC Midtjylland in the Europa League.
And Mata posted that United’s win was a confidence booster ahead of their second leg against the Danish champions on Thursday before hosting Arsenal in the Premier League at the weekend.
Juan Mata wrote on his Instagram page: “Well done boys! Confidence boost for this important week! Thanks to our away fans as always, they are great. @manchesterunited”
United are in fifth place in the Premier League table and six points behind Manchester City, who occupy the final Champions League qualifying spot.
