CNN Calls Modu Sheriff Boko Haram Founder

One of the world’s most reputable international broadcasting channels Cable News Network (CNN) has broadcasted allegations that the new chairman of the Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff, is the founder of the Boko Haram sect.

Ali Modu Sheriff who is ex-borno state governor and recently made PDP chairman has been widely blamed for having a close relationship with the late leader of Boko Haram, Mohammed Yusuf, during his eight-year tenure as the governor of the Borno state, the state which has suffered the worst from the insurgency.

CNN’s report seemingly confirms a recent claim by Femi Fani Kayode that the former governor has strong ties to the terrorist group that has killed over 20,000 Nigerians since 2009.

However, CNN has been known to make mistakes with respect to African countries, especially Nigeria.

One year ago CNN, attempting to portray the countries that had cases of Ebola, had mistaken the Niger Republic for Nigeria.

One of the most renowned news sources in the world also mistakenly wrote that Nairobi (Kenya) is situated in Nigeria, when reporting a terrorist attack launched on April 2, Thursday, at a Kenyan university.
