The Provost of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo State, Prof. Olukoya Ogen, has assured graduating students of the institution yet to be mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme that urgent step would be taken to remedy the situation.
Ogen spoke yesterday while addressing students of the college who were protesting what they described as delay in their mobilization for the one-year compulsory national service.
The placard-wielding students, who gathered at the gate of the institution, sang solidarity songs to express their plight.
While addressing the students, Prof. Ogen empathised with them and gave assurance that the college management would do everything possible to find urgent solution to the problem.
He commended the students for their peaceful conduct and urged them to exercise patience while efforts are being made to address the situation.
One of the aggrieved students, Ekejiuba Kingsley, said the action was embarked upon in order to express their displeasure over their non-mobilisation for the NYSC programme six months after they should have been mobilised for the exercise.
According to him, students of the college, who graduated during the 2012/2013 academic session, are yet to be mobilised while their counterparts from other institutions have completed their programme as scheduled.
Expressing sadness over the development, Kingsley, a graduate of Fine and Applied Arts, said the situation had affected their hope to pursue higher education and seek employment after graduation.
